CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Police scored four times in the first inning to key an 11-4 victory over Maine Veterans Home/VFW in game two of the Caribou Little League championship series played Wednesday, July 19, at the Robert P. White Field. With the win, Police also won the championship.
Braden Brescia, Josh Pitre, Griffen McNeal and Bryce St. Pierre all contributed base hits during the rally.
Brescia also tripled later in the game and Kody Tracy, Mia Theriault and Evan Durepo provided key hits in the contest. Police plated four more runs in the second inning and added three in the fourth to account for all the scoring.
Brescia pitched four outstanding innings, striking out seven along the way, to earn the win, while Landon Tracy came on and pitched the final two frames. Tracy fanned four batters during his stint. McNeal played outstanding at second base, notching a pair of assists and a putout.
Luke Beidelman went the first four innings on the mound for MVH/VFW, striking out four Police batters. Logan Griffeth relieved Beidelman and struck out four batters in his two innings of work. Edison Sleeper starred defensively with a couple nice catches of fly balls in center field.
Elliot Sleeper tripled and Dawson Whitten and Jace Violette each singled for MVH/VFW, who scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and two runs in the fifth.
Police won the first game of the series on Tuesday, July 18, by a score of 5-1.
Police, the American Division champions, finished with a 16-1 record. MVH/VFW, representing the National Division, ended up at 13-4.
