CARIBOU, Maine — Clement Thibodeau, 85, of Caribou has been missing since July 15, and law enforcement believe he may be in the central Maine area.
Maine State Police issued a Silver Alert, which notifies media outlets throughout Maine of any missing senior citizens who may have memory or cognitive issues, late last week in hopes of finding the retired Catholic Priest. As of July 25, Caribou police say they haven’t received any solid leads.
“Some people have called in, but they’ve given us false leads,” said Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan. “We’ve checked out every call from someone saying he’s in the area.”
Gahagan added that the “last ping on his cell phone was in the Old Town area,” and that wardens are currently checking the area.
“That ping is technically old information because his phone went dead last week,” Gahagan said.

Caribou PD sent a release on Monday afternoon indicating that electronic tracking used to locate Thibodeau pointed to the Lee area. The Maine Warden Service has outlined a 300 square mile area around this location and, according to Caribou PD, have been searching “by land and air, along with other local landowners.”
As of Tuesday morning, Gahagan said wardens are still searching the area.
Thibodeau served as a priest at St. Mary Catholic Church in Bangor in the 1980s, and eventually became their pastor in 1993, and has connections to eastern, central, and southern Maine through his work.
Caribou PD believe that Thibodeau left the area in a gray 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle’s license plate number is 638AA.
Attempts to locate this vehicle via ONSTAR have been unsuccessful.
“Unfortunately there are no new leads,” Gahagan said. “We’re still relying on the public to help us out.”
