Travelers planning trips outside the United States who have yet to purchase a passport will now have to come up with a bit more cash, due to an increase in fees for the documents that went into effect July 13.
“Prices for passport books and cards increased, effective July 13. Fee changes affect all categories,” said Lisa Neal-Shaw, reference librarian for the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle.
The library serves as a U.S. passport application acceptance facility. Neal-Shaw said since word of the increased in fees was announced, the library has seen an increase in applications.
“We’ve processed several in the past few days,” she said.
The new rate increases will be as follows:
• Adult (16 and over) passport book was $75 for U.S. Department of State (plus $25 execution fee), it will increase to $110 (plus $25 execution fee);
• Minor (15 and under) passport book was $60 for U.S Department of State (plus $25 execution fee), it will increase to $80 (plus $25 execution fee);
• Adult (16 and over) passcard was $20 for U.S. Department of State (plus $25 execution fee); it will now be $30 (plus $25 execution fee); and
• Minor (15 and under) passcard which was $10 for U.S. Department of State (plus $25 execution fee), will now cost $15 (plus $25 execution fee).
Other increases also take effect on July 13.
“Additional visa pages for passport books were free prior to July 13. Effective Tuesday, it will cost $82 to add additional visa pages,” said Neal-Shaw.
