VAN BUREN, Maine — School board members voted Thursday evening to hire two teachers for positions at Van Buren District Secondary School, according to board chair John Pelletier.
The board agreed to hire Theresa Cyr as a grade 7 teacher and Stephen Dame as a business teacher attached to the district’s career and technology education program.
In other school business, board members were informed the district gained approval for approximately $34,000 through the Mine Department of Education’s Small Rural Schools grant program, to help with computer upgrades.
Pelletier also said a “professional services agreement,” between SAD 24 and SAD 42 in Mars Hill, is now in place, allowing that district’s superintendent, Elaine Boulier, to work one day a week as Van Buren’s superintendent.
The board had approved the concept following the departure of former superintendent Timothy Kane. Boulier’s first day at SAD 24 was Friday.
The district also recently completed repairs of its two tennis courts. According to Pelletier, Beaverbrook Tennis, based in Denmark, Maine, completed the resurfacing and painting on Wednesday.
The first day of school for SAD 24 students is Aug. 23, for all grades
