PI rec soccer and XC programs accepting youths

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Youngsters have a couple of different options for sports activities offered through the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department.

Registration is underway for soccer and cross country running programs. Youths can participate in either or both programs.

Soccer leagues are offered in four different age groups. Mini Kickers is for youths in Pre-K and kindergarten and meets Mondays at 3:30 or 4 p.m. Little Wildcats, for first- and second-graders, is also held Mondays at 4:30 or 5:15 p.m. The grades 3-4 co-ed league meets Wednesdays and Fridays at 3:30 or 4:30 p.m. and the grades 5-6 girls’ and boys’ leagues takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 or 4:30 p.m.

The soccer schedule will be ready Aug. 18 and can be picked up at the Sargent Family Community Center or viewed online at pirec.org. The cost is $25 for residents with an additional non-resident fee of $50 per family.

The cross country program is for youths entering grades 3-5. Runners will meet at Mantle Lake Park from 3:30-4:30 p.m. on the following days: all runners on Mondays, grades 3-4 on Tuesdays and grade 5 on Wednesdays.

Runners will learn about running on different terrains and all levels are welcome to participate. The program begins Aug. 21. The cost is $25 for residents and an additional non-resident fee of $50 per family.

Registrations will be accepted through Aug. 16 and can be done online at pirec.org or in person at the community center. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call 764-2545.
