Senior tour makes stop at Covered Bridge

HARTLAND, New Brunswick — The St. John Valley Senior Golf Association held its fifth tournament of the year Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Covered Bridge Golf and Country Club with 144 golfers from 14 different clubs throughout northern Maine and New Brunswick.

The highlight of the day was a hole-in-one by Bob McFarland of Edmundston Golf Club. He used a six-iron for the ace on the 145-yard fourth hole.

Division winners were as follows: Div. A: first gross, Jerry York of Houlton, 70; first net, Warren Walker, Va Jo Wa, 70; second gross, Dan Hotham, Presque Isle, 75; second net, Steve Gagnon, Caribou, 70; third gross, Joe Sullivan, Covered Bridge, 75; and third net, McFarland, 71.

Div. B: first gross, Gilles Picard, Grand Falls, 75; first net, Earl Toner, Grand Falls, 64; second gross, Paul Roy, Covered Bridge, 76; second net, Terry Hopkins, Aroostook Valley, 65; third gross, Peter Curley, Covered Bridge, 78; and third net, Everette Parker, Covered Bridge, 66.

Div. C: first gross, Ron Grover, Portage Hills, 82; first net, Larry Beaulieu, Long Lake, 70; second gross, Colin Craig, Woodstock, 85; second net, Bernard Clavette, Grand Falls, 71; third gross, John McCrea, Aroostook Valley, 85; and third net, Gerald Dube, Grand Falls, 71.

Div. D: first gross, Charles Pierce, Mars Hill, 80; first net, Lewis Pelkey, Covered Bridge, 64; second gross, Kim Archer, Presque Isle, 83; second net, Phil Thibeault, Long Lake, 66; third gross, Marc Michaud, Fort Kent, 84; and third net, George Findlay, Mars Hill, 68.

The next tourney is on Aug. 16 at Long Lake Country Club.
