County tractor club plans memorial trek

AROOSTOOK COUNTYThe Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club will host the 10th annual “Memorial Tractor Trek,” on Sunday, Aug. 13th, in the St. John Valley area.

This year’s trek will start at 9 a.m. in Frenchville. Registration is at 8 a.m. The trek will continue from Frenchville on to Madawaska, then to Pelletier Island and to St Agatha, finally returning to Frenchville — an estimated distance of about 40 miles.

Donations will be accepted and will go to both Hospice of Aroostook and the Aroostook House of Comfort Hospice House Project. People may donate $25 in memory of a loved one and have that name placed on a Memory Board that will be mounted on the body of an antique farm truck that will lead the trek.

The public is welcome to participate with their antique tractors; club memberships will be accepted the day of the trek. Participants must be club members for insurance purposes.Forms are also available on the club website at www.nmatc.org.

Established in 2008, the Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club is a family-oriented organization with currently over 300 members, focused on the preservation of rural heritage and restoration of the “old tractors,” equipment and related items that were used in the farming industry by past generations.  

It is also the club’s mission to build an awareness of local agricultural heritage to present and future generations in northern Maine and neighboring New Brunswick, Canada.
