MASARDIS, Maine — A truck hauling wood chips rolled over on Route 11 in Masardis Tuesday afternoon, hitting a telephone pole and rupturing the vehicle’s fuel tank.
According to the Maine State Police, 59-year-old Kerry Homes was heading south on Route 11 with a load of wood chips when he rounded a corner and lost control of the truck.
Homes, of Molunkus Township, told Trooper Tim Saucier that when he came around the corner he was “suddenly unable to steer the vehicle,” according to the press release.
The truck rolled onto it’s side and hit a utility pole, spilling some of its load and rupturing its fuel tank, according to state police. The cleanup of the fuel is being overseen by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Holmes was not injured in the crash. The incident is under investigation and the state police commercial vehicle unit will be reviewing the truck, according to the press release.
The vehicle is owned by Keith Mitchell and Sons Trucking of Sherman and was towed from the scene.
