Borderview Rehab turns 50

VAN BUREN, Maine — Borderview Rehab and Living Center of Van Buren will mark its golden anniversary this month, celebrating 50 years of serving the community.

What started out as a hotel named the Webber House (later known as Fontaine Bleu) in 1948, transitioned into a nursing home on July 17, 1967. Joe and Mary Bolduc converted the hotel into a nursing and residential care facility which they named Borderview Manor.

In 1981, John and Noreen Pelletier bought Borderview, and over the years it has evolved into a rehabilitation and living center with four levels of care. Borderview was the first in The County to establish a skilled nursing unit and a sub nursing unit.

North Country Associates became the owners of Borderview in 2001 and still own the facility.

According to Borderview staff, over the past five decades, the facility has been home to thousands of residents and skilled nursing patients. There have been countless employees who dedicated their time and careers to caring for residents and their families.

“The staff at Borderview takes pride in caring for residents from our surrounding area,” said Leslie P. Beaulieu, rehab manager. “It is always our mission to make sure residents and their families feel at home at Borderview, whether they are with us for a brief period before returning home, at the end of their life or any span of time in between.”

“We look forward to celebrating Borderview caring for Van Buren and our surrounding communities for the last 50 years,” stated Robert Poiesz, administrator. “I’ve had the honor of working for Borderview the last 17 years. The management team I work along with cares about the service being provided to our residents and families. They want it to be personal, and have a true willingness to serve our customers. Our direct care staff works hard and I hear often from them that their motivation comes from residents and families trusting them.

“Many of our team have a long history with the facility. We appreciate the education of our former co-workers and retired employees and the role models they were to us. We look forward to the facility celebration next week and having Borderview retirees join us,” he added.

Borderview will celebrate their milestone anniversary this August with a hot dog roast, when residents and staff will host the residents’ families and retirees for a special evening of food, reminiscing and music.
