102 Years Ago – August 19, 1915

Pine Tree Camp 3837 — There was an interesting meeting of Pine Tree Camp 3837, R. N. of A. and it was voted to have the Camp represented in the pageant at Northern Maine Fair. Neighbors Minnie Horsman, Ethel Connick, Delta Wilcox and Hope Johnson were appointed a committee of arrangements. Oracle Loretta Burden presided.

New barn — E. W. Fernald built a new barn 50×80 feet in dimensions, on his farm near the C. P. Station.

75 Years Ago – August 13, 1942

New U.S.O. Club director — Captain and Mrs. George Forrester, of Jersey City, N.J., arrived in town to take over the directorship of the local U.S.O. Club. The new directors succeeded adjutant and Mrs. Thomas W. Seaver who left to organize a new club at Youngstown, N.Y.

Prominent Fort Fairfield vocalists presented Rotary program — A musical program of vocal solos was presented by Fort Fairfield’s well known singers, Mr. and Mrs. William Jenkins, at the Rotary Club. “Roses of My Heart”, “Johnny Doughboy Found A Rose In Ireland”, “Sylvia” and “In The Garden of My Heart” were the numbers sang. Guests were Charles Fowler and Dwight Dorsey, Fort Fairfield; Arnold Peabody, Houlton; M. D. McGrath, Caribou; and S. C. McCall, Waterville.

50 Years Ago – August 16, 1967

Grange wins ribbon — Castle Hill Grange No. 260 won the First Premium in the the grange exhibits at the Northern Maine Fair, this making seven consecutive years that they have made such an achievement. The Maine State Grange special award was also presented to Castle Hill Grange by George Mower of Bangor, a member of the State Grange Agriculture Committee.

Presque Isle firm won bid — The Procurement Division, Loring AFB, announced the award of a contract to Bridge Construction Corp., Presque Isle, in the amount of $110,900 for performing repairs to Pavement Alert Apron nuber 1. The firm submitted the lowest of two bids received in response to the invitation.

25 Years Ago – August 12, 1992

Chose graduate school — Two recent graduates of the University of Maine, Presque Isle’s political science department have decided to continue their education at grad school. Discussing the options were Dr. Clifford J. Binder, associate professor of public administration and political science; students Shirley Caroline Desjardins and Mary Kay Moreau; Dr. William J. Davidshofer, professor of political science; and Dr. Arthur J. DeVaney, assistant professor of government and public administration.

Exhibit hall — Craftmaster’s booth at the exhibit hall of the Northern Maine Fair was among one of the more popular stops of visitors to the annual event
