PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Elks Lodge 1954 will sponsor the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest street fair Thursday, Aug. 24, on Maine Street in Presque Isle, starting at 6 p.m.
According to event chair Alan Harding of the lodge, the theme is “New Energy on Main Street.”
Consistent with that theme, the band Powerage will provide music for the evening. The four-member group features the music of AC/DC and other upbeat rock-and-roll styles. Members include Marcel Ruest, vocalist and bass guitar player, Adam Lavoie, rhythm guitarist and Wade Michaud, drummer, all of Van Buren, and Tim Lowery, lead guitarist, of Orient.
The stage will be at the intersection of State and Main streets.
Other fair features will include the Elks’ dunking booth and a bounce house for young people. Allstar Galaxy Cheerleaders will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. The Presque Isle Fire Department will demonstrate equipment and open its Learn Not to Burn exhibit. There will be an obstacle course and free contests for young people to win school supplies.
Of course, said Harding, vendors will offer an abundance of food choices. St. John’s Episcopal Church will offer fresh strawberry shortcakes. The Elks will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, popcorn and shaved ice, with all proceeds going to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
Various businesses and other food vendors will also be present.
“The Balloonfest Street Fair is always a fun event,” said Elks Exalted Ruler Marion Donahue. “It is an opportunity for the entire community to visit with neighbors and old friends from throughout the community while enjoying the sights and sounds of a street fair. It truly is a block party for everyone.”
