Championship decided in men’s summer hoop league

CARIBOU, Maine — The summer men’s basketball league offered through the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department came to a close Aug. 17 as Ghent’s Team pulled off a 62-52 victory over The Young Guys in the championship game played at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

Following a regular season which included eight games for each of the five teams involved, a double-elimination playoff was held to determine a champion.

Ghent’s Team finished the regular season with a league-best 7-1 record to take the No. 1 seed into the post-season and earn a bye into the finals.

After losing an early-round playoff matchup, The Young Guys beat Loring Job Corps to make it into the finals.

In the title game, Ghent’s Team grabbed the early lead and was up by seven at halftime. The Young Guys battled to make it a two-possession game with four minutes to play, but Ghent’s Team hit some late free throws to garner the win.

The winning team included Dustin Bouchard, Jeremiah Fitzherbert, Cody Herbert, Ghent Holdsworth, Andre Rossignol, Dayne Savage, Donovan Savage, Matt Till and Hunter Turner.

Making up The Young Guys roster were Nick Allen, Jacob Berkoski, Alex Bouchard, Riley Bouchard, Parker Deprey, Sawyer Deprey, Austin Findlen, Ethan Holdsworth, Isaac Marker and Jacob Paul.
