GRAND FALLS, New Brunswick — Matt Curry of Caribou recently received plenty of well-deserved recognition for his baseball ability.

Curry plays for the Grand Falls Cataracts in the Miramichi Valley Baseball League and he was honored in many ways when regular season awards were handed out.

He was the runaway winner of the league MVP award, picking up 26 votes. The runner-up, Dennis Graham of Miramichi, had 10 votes.

Curry, a lefthanded pitcher, won the earned run average championship by posting a 1.06 ERA. He allowed only six earned runs in 39 innings of work, striking out 30 and allowing six walks.

Curry also took the batting crown with a .456 average. He played in every game and has 72 plate appearances. He went 26 for 57, including two home runs and four doubles.

The 2014 Caribou High School graduate, a member of the Vikings’ Class B regional championship team his senior season, was voted to the MVBL all-star team as a pitcher/first baseman. He also plays outfield.

Curry plays on the University of Maine at Presque Isle baseball team and is getting ready for his senior year with the Owls. He is the son of Scott and Karla Curry of Caribou.
