The Caribou Middle School soccer teams were in action this past week. The boys managed a win, a loss and a tie, while the girls won twice before suffering their first defeat.
The boys downed Washburn Thursday by a score of 4-0. Jude Shea had two goals and assisted on another, while Ari Plante added a goal and two assists and Griffen McNeal chipped in with the other goal. Michael Brigman and Alex Belanger combined for the shutout in goal.
On Aug. 18, the Vikes played to a 2-2 tie against Ashland. Shea and Devin Wright scored for Caribou and Alex Levesque had an assist. On Aug. 21, the Vikings were blanked by Madawaska, 6-0.
Caribou coach Steve Perreault said Ryan Austin, Alden Wilcox, Eliott Sleeper, Jacob Walton, Dylan Bouchard, Keegan Bell, Aryan Bawa, Cameron Belanger, Calvin Hersey, Bobby Caron and Mason St. Peter all turned in strong efforts in at least one of the contests.
The CMS girls defeated Madawaska on Aug. 21, 7-3, and Washburn on Aug. 24, 5-1, before losing for the first time against Houlton Monday, 3-0.
In the win over the Owls, Ashlyn Bouchard had three goals and an assist, while Hannah Beauchamp added a goal and an assist. Mia Theriault, Marienna St. Peter and Selena Savage were the other goal scorers. Kallee Parent and Kerigan Guerrette both had assists. Jessica Leavitt powered Caribou’s defense and goalkeeper Libby Collier made fives saves on eight shots.
Against Washburn, Bouchard led the way again with two goals and an assist. Savage netted two goals and Parent added a late insurance tally. Theriault picked up an assist, while Naomi Cote and Guerrette paced the defense.
Breanne Barton scored all three goals in Houlton’s shutout victory. Abby McNeal, Guerrette and Collier all played well defensively for the 3-1 Caribou squad.
