The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Aug. 22 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Ami Pierce, who discussed Operation Christmas Child. She spoke about the growth of the program in the local area.
Her first year, she did four boxes; the second year, 10 boxes.
Through the videos that show the impact these boxes have on children around the world, the number of boxes put together by churches and individuals in the central Aroostook area skyrocketed to 800 last year. Her goal for this year is 1,000.
Sent to 160 territories and countries, these shoeboxes are the only gift that most of these children will ever receive. They are delivered by plane, vehicle, boat, elephant, donkeys, etc.
Ami is the drop-off team leader for the area. This year the drop-off dates are Nov. 13-20 at the CEF building, 24 Military Rd. in Blaine (formerly the Faith Baptist Chapel).

Toddler Time is on Tuesdays at 10, and the library also is open for a Craft Club on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring your favorite cross stitch piece, knitting, crocheting or other craft to work on in the company of others.
