Houlton’s soccer teams make their regular season debut with home games against Madawaska Thursday.
The Houlton girls host the Owls in a 4 p.m. match, with the boys’ game to follow at 6 p.m. The Madawaska squads both enter with 3-0 records.
The Washburn boys (0-6) will be gunning for their first victory of the season this afternoon when they travel to Easton to take on the 2-2 Bears. The Easton girls won for the first time Tuesday, beating Fort Fairfield 3-1, and look to make it two in a row when they entertain the 4-2 Beavers. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
Fort Kent makes the long trip south to play Katahdin at 5 p.m. in the only other match involving local teams.
In golf, Carlisle (the newly-formed co-op team of Caribou and Presque Isle) and Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln are involved in a three-team match with the host Shires at Houlton Community Golf Course beginning at 3:30 p.m.
The following is a recap of soccer and golf matches played Wednesday.
Central Aroostook boys 7, Hodgdon 0 — Hunter Wardwell, Hayden Kingsbury and Caleb Harris scored two goals each as the Panthers improved to 5-0 after blanking the Hawks in Mars Hill. Ben Thomas chipped in with a single goal and Brayden Bradbury notched the shutout in goal. Hodgdon is now 1-1.
Central Aroostook girls 12, Hodgdon 0 — The Panthers girls ended their two-match losing streak in convincing fashion against the visiting Hawks. Katie Levesque scored four goals and Breann Bradbury notched a hat trick and contributed an assist to lead CA (3-2). Kassie Levesque and Kristen Main both added two goals and Libby Grass had the other. Caitlyn Harris and Macey Coffin combined for the goalkeeping shutout. Hodgdon fell to 0-2.
Carlisle golf 183, PVHS 229, Calais 248 — The Carlisle golf team hosted Penobscot Valley of Howland and Calais in Caribou and were able to pick up a pair of wins.
Seth Roy and Isaac Madore, both of Carlisle, shared medalist honors with PVHS’s Mackenzie Plourde as all three golfers carded 45s.
Other Carlisle scores were: Libby Boone, 46; Noah Rosado, 47; Gabe Rand, 49; Andrew Evans, 53; and Ian MacKinnon, 55.
Central Aroostook 7.5, Hodgdon 3.5 (match play) — Central Aroostook remains undefeated after outscoring Hodgdon in a match played at Houlton. Shane Stackpole was the medalist with a 46 and teammate Tyson Cyr followed with a 50.
For the Hawks, Andrew Tuttle led the way with a 51 and Bryan Barton posted a 54.
Southern Aroostook 6, Ashland 5 (match play) — The Warriors nipped the Hornets at Va Jo Wa in Island Falls. Hunter Walker of the Warriors and Graham Berry of the Hornets were the co-medalists, both shooting 55 on the afternoon.
