CARIBOU, Maine — Haney’s Building Specialties, a building materials supply company in Caribou, Maine, is marking its 18th anniversary in 2017 and invites the community to help celebrate.
The company plans a grand reopening on Friday, Sept. 8, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 9, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to owner Troy Haney, factory representatives will be on hand to answer questions, and the store will feature refreshments and prizes, including a gas grill, storm door and circular saw. On Friday, repair specialists from Paslode and Stanley Bostitch, two of Haney’s signature tool and fastener lines, will offer free cleaning and repair for any pneumatic or gas-powered air nailers.
As a thank you to the community, Haney’s will pay the sales tax on all purchases those two days.
Haney established the company in Caribou in 1999. The business has expanded to 14 employees and will add two to three more in the coming months.
“In addition to a growing list of full-time employees, we also work with over 30 subcontractors in the local area, creating year-round work for many local contractors,” Haney said.
Since its start, Haney’s has offered kitchen and bath cabinets, flooring, windows, doors, siding, appliances and a variety of other special-order products. This year, said Haney, the company has renovated the store and added a number of products and services, with more on the way.
New this fall, the store will open a garden center, which will feature plants and supplies such as mums and other popular fall plants. Next spring, Haney will build a greenhouse to house flowers, shrubs and garden needs. Workers are also constructing a new warehouse and lumber yard on the premises.
Changes began this spring when Haney’s kicked off a store remodel with the help of Emery-Waterhouse, its new hardware supplier.
“Along with new displays and flooring, the store layout has been drastically changed,” said Haney. “Interactive displays have been added, the door and window showroom has been updated and improved, the product offerings have been expanded to include all types of tools, electrical, plumbing, caulkings and adhesives, cleaning supplies and more.”
Along with enlarging its flooring center, the company has expanded the kitchen division, offering design and renovation ideas and showcasing mini-kitchen vignettes from leading manufacturer Merillat, along with locally fabricated custom granite and quartz countertops.
Haney’s announced the return of GOSCOBEC Modular homes earlier this year. “They have renewed their position of selling the highest quality modular homes in the area,” said Haney. “GOSCOBEC allows for total customization of any plan and offers one of the most energy-efficient modular options available today on the market.”
The business has brought in other products this year, including New England-made and energy-efficient Harvey windows, Amvic insulated concrete foam building blocks, Best Bath’s newest designs for ADA-compliant showers and walk-in tubs and Certainteed roofing and siding.
He said employees are a big part of what sets the company apart, combining actual construction knowledge with one-on-one service. In addition, the store’s small-business model provides them with the ability to sell for less.
“We have focused on the consumer experience all while providing a high-quality work environment for our employees,” he added. “Haney’s believes that providing the customer with as much service as possible will make their construction project flow smoothly, and achieve high-quality end results with the best overall value.”
Haney’s recently updated their website, which now has a built-in product selection guide, expanded information on the company’s services and an online store, through which customers can have items shipped to their home or to the local store.
“We are also pleased to offer in-house financing for those customers that would like to enjoy the benefits of a home improvement with up to 10 years to pay for the project,” Haney said.
