Woodland Center Road reopens after culvert replacement

WOODLAND, Maine — Contractors with McGillan Inc. recently replaced a 60-year-old culvert on the Woodland Center Road as part of a $250,000 Maine Department of Transportation project.

Barrett Parks, an official with MDOT’s Presque Isle office, said the new culvert will simulate a stream, improving the habitat.

“We are redesigning the structure so the stream doesn’t realize it’s going through a culvert,” Parks said on Friday.

All in all, the project took about three weeks to complete. Worker with the Fort Fairfield-based McGillan, Inc. took care of the replacement itself while officials from Maine DOT inspected on site.

According to Parks, the portion of the Woodland Center Road between the Pratt Road and Lufkin Road has since opened back up to traffic, adding that paving will be completed the first week of September.

“The project went over really well,” Parks said. “We had a few minor weather-related incidents but McGillan, Inc. was good to work with and the neighbors were really responsive and patient with us while we had the road closed, and we appreciate that.”
