Aroostook, New Brunswick seniors end golf season with tourney in Edmundston

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — The Upper St John Valley Senior Golf Association’s final tournament of the year was played Wednesday, Aug. 30 at Edmundston Golf Club, with 144 players competing.

End-of-the-year awards were handed out. With Jerry York of Houlton winning the president’s trophy for the lowest average of the four best gross scores at 72.5. Bob MacFarlane of Edmundston had the lowest average of the four best net scores at 68.8 to claim the governor’s trophy.

The Bud Survant trophy, presented to the individual who is 75 years old or older with the lowest average of the three best gross scores, went to Nelson Bouchard of Fort Kent with a 76.3. Capturing the Elwood Doody Trophy for being the individual 75 years old or older with the lowest average of the three best net scores was Len Riley of Hartland with a 65.

The top three scorers for gross and net in each of the six divisions at the Aug. 30 event were as follows:

Div. A: first gross, Gary Greene of Covered Bridge, 73; second gross, Yvon Levesque of Edmundston, 74; and third gross, Jerry York, 76. First net, Jean Dionne of Edmundston, 65; second net, Rick Pelletier of Long Lake, 68; and third net, Mike Gagnon of Caribou, 69.

Div. B: first gross, Ray Mersereau of Mars Hill, 78; second gross, Paul Roy of Covered Bridge, 79; and third gross, Greg Cyr of Fort Kent, 80. First net, Joe Levesque of Grand Falls, 69; second net, Clinton Doustu of Fort Kent, 69; and third net, Greg Toner of Grand Falls, 70.

Div. C: first gross, Dan Fournier of Grand Falls, 83; second gross, Ron Grover of Portage, 85; and third gross, Martin Gallant of Caribou, 85. First net, Milton Ross of Aroostook Valley, 70; second net, Dave Edgar of Houlton, 71; and third net, Bernard Clavette of Grand Falls, 71.

Div. D: first gross, Dan Libby of Portage, 86; second gross, Roy Layte of Hartland, 87; and third gross, Al Condon of Presque Isle, 91. First net, Mike Glue of Long Lake, 71; second net, James Michael of Portage, 74; and third net, Nick Straetz of Presque Isle, 74.

Div. E: first gross, Pat Kelley of Portage, 82; second gross, David Scullion of Portage, 90; and third gross, Charles Pierce of Mars Hill, 91. First net, Percy Thibeault of Long Lake, 70; second net, Mickey Maynard of Presque Isle, 77; and third net, Keith Larlee of Edmundston, 91.

Div. F: first gross, Greg Gayne of Va Jo Wa; second gross, Wayne Paul of Mars Hill, 84; and third gross, Freeman Deabay of Portage, 94. First net, Lawrence Audibert of Fort Kent, 61; second net, Riley, 67; and third net, Leslie Jackson of Woodstock, 71.

Players from 14 different clubs in western New Brunswick and Aroostook County participated in this year’s seniors tour.
