Presque Isle runners have strong race in Ellsworth

ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Presque Isle girls and boys both tucked two runners into the top 10 at the opening cross country meet of the season on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Madison Jandreau took fourth place in the field of 71 with a time of 20 minutes and 58.4 seconds, while teammate Isabelle Jackson was eighth in 21:13.65. The Wildcats placed sixth out of 10 teams with 132 points.

Amanda Winslow, Ellie Smith and Taylor Ellis, who finished in consecutive order in the 44th, 45th and 46th positions, were the team’s other point scorers.

The PI boys were led by Max Bartley, who was sixth out of 73 runners with a 17:45.72 clocking. Teammate Trace Cyr took 16th overall in 18:46.93.

Jonah Clark (32nd), Owen McQuarrie (47th) and Carter Jackson (62nd) were the Wildcats’ other runners. The team placed seventh out of 10 teams by accumulating 150 points.

George Stevens Academy’s Eliza Broughton (20:02.77) and Deer Isle-Stonington’s Brendan Penfold (16:40.21) were the individual champs on the five-kilometer course. Caribou swept the team titles.

Presque Isle hosts Penobscot Valley Conference and Aroostook League teams on Saturday in a meet being held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle beginning at 1 p.m.
