DYKE B. HOWE, HOULTON – Dyke B. Howe, 65, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017, at a Bangor hospital while surrounded by his family. He was born December 20, 1951, in Houlton, the son of Burton and Grace (Trafton) Howe.
Dyke grew up in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge, Dyke returned to Houlton and worked at a group home for boys. He became a licensed CNA and worked at Houlton Regional Hospital and CLA Residential Center.
He met and married Margaret Sabatis on December 23, 1984 and together they would raise their family. Dyke also was able to spend a lot of time with his children when he chose to be a stay at home dad. He and the children had a great time and there were many happy memories made. He enjoyed playing darts, softball, and fishing.
In addition, Dyke was a Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics fan. He never missed a game. Dyke had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people around him laugh. He was also a very honest man who would tell you the truth no matter what, regardless of whether you even wanted to hear it.
He is survived by seven children: Nick Howe, Darcy Gentle, Amber Wire, Danielle Howe, Patty Howe, a stepson David Joseph, and Kathy Rodrigez, and nine grandchildren with two on the way. He will also be missed by the McAfee, Mooers, and Spellman families, with whom he had a very close relationship. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son David Rodrigez.
Friends may call 12 noon Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Dunn Funeral Home where a memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David Tuttle officiating.
