The past two months have been very busy and exciting for all of us at The Ark. Even though we are only open limited hours we have been incredibly busy with people visiting our facility and also with adoptions. We have received so much positive feedback about our wonderful volunteers and our beautiful building.
We currently have 57 cats and in the past two weeks we have adopted over 10 cats and kittens. Unfortunately this past week we took in six more cats.
We thought we would take the time to give you some updates on some of the cats that we have written about. Do you remember Indra? She was the big black and white cat that was so stressed because she didn’t like other cats. It was so bad she was losing her fur.
Well after six months of living in a room by herself Indra has found the perfect home where there are no other animals so she will have her new owner’s undivided attention. Indra is in heaven and we are so happy that she finally got the home she so deserves.
How about Peanut, the tiny little kitten that almost didn’t make it because his birth mom was just too tired after delivering six kittens to clean him? Peanut was taken care of by his foster mom Jazz. This last week Peanut was reunited with his 5 other birth siblings and they never missed a beat. Peanut was given that name because he was so tiny. Well ,Peanut is no longer tiny. As a matter of fact he is larger than his siblings and will be ready for adoption in a few weeks.
Trooper, the cat with the injured leg and full of infections, finally came home from the vet today after a two month stay at the clinic. The vets and vet techs took excellent care of this guy and got him healthy enough to start his new life. It was a long road to recovery, but he looks amazing and is loving life.
Then there are the two tiny yellow kittens that were just born. That day when I saw them I thought there is no way these babies are going to survive without a mom. We decided to take a chance and give them to Jazz, the mom that had come in with five kittens of her own and the same mom who raised Peanut as her own.
We weaned her five kittens from her and gave her these 2 tiny souls. Jazz did not hesitate for a moment she started cleaning them and nursing them while continuing to nurse Peanut. Jazz is an extraordinary cat, keep in mind that she had had seven litters of her own before she came to The Ark and she is only three or four years old. Jazz is now left with just the two tiny yellow kittens for the next few weeks and then we have promised her no more babies. Once she is ready she will be spayed and up for adoption.
These are just a few of the stories but these stories explain why we do what we do. Happy endings like these make it all worthwhile. Our volunteers are incredible and they care so much about these animals, they give their time and their love without question. It is who they are and we cannot thank them enough. So when you visit our facility give them a pat on the back and let them know that the work they do is inspiring and incredible!!
We will be having an open house at The Sanctuary on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our annual “Strut Your Mutt” event will also be that day. This year we are walking one way from The Hollywood pet Salon to the sanctuary. Pledge sheets for the walk are available at the salon. Anyone with pledges of $20 or more will receive a free t shirt. We will have transportation for the walkers back to the salon. At the Sanctuary we will have a barbecue, bake sale, silent auction, face painting, cotton candy, we will have pillows for sale, the chapel will be open. Please join us for a fun day and maybe you just might find a new furry friend to take home.
For the kids, we will be doing a bottle drive from now until Oct 3. Collect your bottles and cans take them to the Thirsty Dog redemption center tell them it is for The Ark Animal Sanctuary and make sure to leave your name. Winners will be announced at the open house on Oct. 7. The two that raise the most money will receive a candy gift basket and movie passes.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
