Quinn White, a freshman at Houlton High School, received the Gwen Turner Memorial Scholarship at this summer’s Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp. From left are Carol Soucy, Turner’s daughter; Landyn Newlands, great-grandson; Annette Roope, daughter; White; and Mary Michaud, daughter. The camp awards the scholarship each year to a student who displays outstanding school citizenship as well as high moral character. Turner was a head cook at SAD 1 for over 30 years and, along with her family, provided food service for the ATLC for over 20 years. Jack Foster, former ATLC camp director, and Turner’s sons-in-law, Boyd Roope, Alan Michaud, Dana McOuade, Alton Hartt, Willie Soucy and Jim Saucier, fund the scholarship, which the winner receives upon graduation.
