100 Years Ago – Sept. 12, 1917

    New manager The International Agricultural Corp. known in Houlton as the Buffalo Fertilizer Co., made the announcement, becoming effective Sept. 1, that Mr. B. H. Brown, a former sales manager for the company at Buffalo, N.Y., will have charge of the Houlton office.
    Repairs Extensive repairs are being made on the potato storehouses at the B. & A. yards, many are having concrete foundations under them, all are having the chimneys gone over and quite a number are being shingled.

75 Years Ago – Sept. 10, 1942

    Business school Miss Delma Noyes left for Boston Saturday where she will attend the Bryant and Stratton School.

    Looking for scraps ‘Give  your scrap to the Boy Scouts.’ The Boy Scouts of Linneus are going to collect scrap material in this town. If you have any old iron, copper, lead, brass, aluminum, rags and old rubber place it at the entrance of your driveway and the boys will collect it.

50 Years Ago – Sept. 13 , 1967

    50th anniversary Two couples celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Callnan celebrated with a dinner at Parkview Restaurant and are lifelong residents of Houlton, and Mr. and Mrs. Owen L. Prince Sr. celebrated their anniversary at their home in Oakfield, where they have been residents for the last 46 years.

    Annual picnic Members of the Sherman Fire Department, their families and guests, held their annual picnic Sunday at the firehouse.

25 Years Ago – Sept. 9, 1992

   Group effort The Chester L. Briggs Post 47 Cycle Club pulled a group effort and held a toy run on Aug. 16 to benefit the Battered Women’s Project in Houlton. Accepting the toys was children’s advocate for the project, Diane Langworthy.

   Presented — A $25,000 check was presented to Mike McLaughlin, president of the Houlton Regional Health Services Foundation, by Robert Anderson, chairman of the third annual County Open Golf Tournament and dinner raffle. Sponsored by local businesses and individuals with participation from approximately 80 sponsors this year. Peg Hammond, executive director of the foundation attended the presentation.
