The Irma Strike Team heads out to help

The Irma Strike Team of the American Red Cross of Maine headed out Sunday to help with the disaster response.

The five Maine Red Crossers that make up this mobile team that will go where their help is needed most. The will report first to Macon, Ga. This group — a mix of employees and volunteers — is led by Regional Disaster Officer Dave Sheehan (left). The others, left to right, Volunteer Services Specialist Kristin Pollard, Aroostook Community Manager Mary Green and Lorraine Bernier, a volunteer from East Poland. The fifth member, volunteer Randy Eldridge of Orland, is flying out of Bangor. They are among the 23 Maine Red Crossers activated for Irma. More than 1,500 Red Cross workers responding to Irma now, with 500 more on the way. The American Red Cross is working with its partners to provide safe refuge and support to Floridians forced from their homes as Hurricane Irma comes ashore.
