HOULTON, Maine — The annual Harvest Festival in downtown Houlton returns this Saturday, with a full array of fall-related activities.
A portion of Market Square will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow pedestrians to mingle freely between the Community Market and Harvest Festival events. The event celebrates the coming of fall and, what is hoped to be a bountiful harvest for area farmers.
“There will be lots of kids activities and Houlton Rocks will be there for rock painting with the kids,” said Jane Torres, executive director for the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. “We will also have pumpkin painting, music and cooking demonstrations.”
The Chamber also will be selling hamburgers and hotdogs.
Again this year, the harvest festival will include a community cross-country race for both runners and walkers starting at Riverfront Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the race starting at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $12 and the proceeds will benefit the Houlton cross-country team.
Harvest theme awards await the winners of each age division.
The course will see runners head up North Street before making their way back to Market Square in downtown Houlton, before finishing back in Riverfront Park.
