PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center is featuring the work of local artist Joanna Doughty during the month of October. The Opening Reception for her show entitled “Home” will be held October 6, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.
Music will be provided by the artist’s husband, the very talented Josh Doughty, who plays guitar, keyboard, and sings. Refreshments will be served. The reception is free and open to the public.
“This is Joanna’s second showing at Wintergreen,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director. “Her first show highlighted oil paintings, while her current show is a unique combination of mixed media sculptures and acrylic paintings. Joanna is a terrific talent and teacher, yet very humble. We’ve been lucky to have her back now and then to teach a class or instruct a paint night here at Wintergreen. She is wonderful.”
“My theme is ‘Home,’ very northern Maine,” said Doughty. “I truly love putting this show together and the theme. I look forward to a great evening mingling with people at Wintergreen, and having my work on display for the month.”
Joanna Doughty studied sculpture and painting at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She was born in Canada in 1986, and grew up in the border town of Van Buren, Maine, surrounded by Acadian culture. Much of the inspiration of her work comes from the northern Maine landscape and culture. Her current show series, “Home,” references such places and themes with an imaginative flare.
Doughty and her husband currently live in Presque Isle with their dog Bam.
