MAPLETON, Maine – The Lord took Marilyn Carter, 72, home mercifully early Saturday morning, September 9, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family and her beloved dog Ariel. She was born January 12, 1945 in Presque Isle, the daughter of Melvin and Barbara (Slipp) Higgins.
She graduated from Mapleton High School in 1963. Marilyn attended Bangor Nursing School to journey on her career path to be a registered nurse. She worked at TAMC for the extent of her career. She loved to spend time with friends and her dogs, have cookouts, fires, and eat smores. She loved horseback riding and camping.
She is survived by her sons, Martin M. Carter, Daron A. Carter and his wife Theresa A. ‘Terry’, all of Castle Hill; her very special and caregiver sister Louise Seeley of Mapleton, her brother Marvin Higgins and his partner Susan Gilbey of Kennebunk, special grandchildren; Spencer Carter of Fredericksburg, VA, MacKenzie and Danni Rae Carter, Sophie Theriault, and Jessica Jimmo all of Ashland, Amber Dostie and the grand dogs Bo and Winnie of Castle Hill, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Dennis Carter in 2014, her parents, her stepfather Woodie Waddell, and her dog Harry.
Relatives and friends may call 12 noon – 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, where services will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating.
