CARIBOU, Maine — The kart racing season at Spud Speedway came to a close with the Maine Invitational on Sept. 9.
In the Kids Kart division, Parker Bosse of Limestone was the winner, with Mason Gillis of Detroit second and Kayden Haines of Caribou third.
Brayden Thibodeau of Limestone took the checkered flag in the Junior Cage class. He was followed by Madison Gillis of Detroit and Ronnie Lynn Kelly of Presque Isle.
Damian Theriault of Caribou continued his winning ways in the Senior Cage division, with Jason Theriault and Janet Bosse, both of Caribou, taking second and third, respectively.
A Powder Puff division was held and Bosse was first and Whitney Williams of Presque Isle came in second.
The event was a fundraiser for Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery. Wade Bright of Fort Fairfield gathered motorsports-themed door prizes and items which were sold to benefit the Aroostook County-based organization.
The Northern Maine Karting Association points champions for 2017 have been determined. Kids Karts were run as an exhibition and there were no winners, but Bosse and Haines were the participants.
For Junior Cage, Bryan Searles of Presque Isle was first with 122 points, followed by Gage Theriault of Limestone with 102 and Kelly with 25.
In the Senior Cage category, Damian Theriault dominated with 142 points. Jason Theriault was the runner-up with 97 and Tom Hale of Westmanland was next with 75.
Damian Theriault came away with Driver of the Year honors. Searles won the Sportsmanship Award and Dick McNeal of Presque Isle was named Crew Chief of the Year for his work with the HTF Motorsports Kart driven by Hale.
