HOULTON, Maine — A beautiful autumn day provided the perfect backdrop for the sixth annual Harvest Festival River Run Saturday morning.
Caleb Streinz was the overall race winner, completing the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 26 seconds. Angela Ewings was the top female runner, placing sixth with a time of 21:43.
“The run was well attended and supported by many familiar faces in the Houlton (and extended) running communities,” said event organizer Chris Rines. “A couple years ago the Chamber of Commerce reached out if we could take over the race during the Harvest festival and when we asked about using it as a fundraiser they were delighted by the idea and it’s been a great fit ever since.”
The race raises money for the Houlton High School cross country program, to assist with the cost of transportation, equipment and other expenses. Saturday’s race raised slightly more than $400 for the program, which also benefits students from Hodgdon and Katahdin who train with the Shires.
Houlton cross country also is hosting a “movie basket” raffle for a $50 gift card to Temple Cinemas, popcorn, snacks, and more. The drawing will be on Oct. 28. Those interested in purchasing a ticket can speak to any member of the cross country team.
