HARDGROVE, George Edward, Sr., 73, BLAINE, at Mars Hill, October 6, 2010. A graveside service will be held on Wed., October 13, at 2 p.m. at the East Blaine Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill.
BLAINE – George Edward Hardgrove, Sr., 73, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the Mars Hill Nursing Home, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
George was a Blaine native, born June 17, 1937, to Benjamin H. & Phoebe L. Hardgrove. He attended school locally in Mars Hill.
After school, George proudly served from 1962 to 1965 in the United States Army as a Medic in Verdun, France.
Upon returning from France, George began work in the grocery industry with Graves and IGA locally in Mars Hill. Later in his career, he decided to start his own business in Blaine, which he operated up until his illness began. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman. To George, everyday was a great day to fish, and to have a thermos of hot tea. As a proud member of the Blaine/Mars Hill community, George loved his hometown and took great pride in helping his neighbors whenever possible.
George E. Hardgrove, Sr., is survived by his wife, Vida; son, George, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kelly; granddaughter, Caitlyn of Bangor; his daughter, Michel M. King; son-in-law, William M. King; grandsons, Walker and Jackson of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Clara Kinny of Blaine, and Josephine Lowrey of Florida.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the East Blaine Cemetery with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill. Condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
