CARIBOU, Maine — The Aroostook County grand jury has indicted more than 20 people this session, including an Oakfield man on a number of charges for allegedly assaulting and threatening several people in the fall and late winter of last year.
District Attorney Todd Collins released the September grand jury indictments on Wednesday.
Chad R. McMannus, 37, was indicted on charges of domestic violence criminal threatening with a weapon, criminal restraint, two counts of domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, aggravated assault, criminal threatening with a weapon and assault.
According to court documents, McMannus allegedly committed the crimes against two victims, one female and one male. The charges of domestic violence criminal threatening with a weapon, criminal restraint and domestic violence assault occurred between Sept. 21 and Dec. 21, 2016, when police say McMannus “knowingly restrained” the victim and placed her in “fear of imminent bodily injury with the use of a dangerous weapon.” The aggravated assault charge occurred between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31, 2017, when McMannus allegedly “intentionally, knowingly or recklessly caused bodily injury to [ the victim] under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life.” Additional charges of domestic violence assault and domestic violence criminal threatening were lodged for actions that reportedly took place between March 1 and March 31.
The charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and assault involving the male victim occurred on May 2 in Dyer Brook and were lodged after McMannus allegedly used a firearm to threaten the man and “recklessly caused bodily injury” to him.
