From the Bunkers (week of September 27, 2017)

It is sad to think that summer has come and gone. Although the weather is telling us a different story, a look around the course is affirming it. The fall colors are starting to show and the early mornings are crisp. The next couple of weeks should be a beautiful experience on the golf course.

As most people know now, the fairways and tees have been punched to allow oxygen to get to the roots and loosen the compacted soil. Our crew has also spread organic fertilizer to feed the fairways. Most players view this as a minor inconvenience resulting in more playable course conditions.

This weekend we held the Ryan Wright Memorial Scramble. Winners were the team of Marty Gervais, Porter Gervais, Josh McGuire, and another unnamed ringer at -9 for nine holes. Congrats to all who participated. Coming on Sunday Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. we will hold the Last Fall Fling GFL Scramble. This is open to all members and GFL participants. Teams are combined with members and GFLers for fun competition. Snacks will be provided by the Lakeside Restaurant afterward.

The Lakeside Restaurant is still a bustling place, operating on their regular hours. Nancy wishes to inform you that a special function will be held this Thursday night. The restaurant will be open to the public and serving in the bar area, the deck, and for a beautiful experience in the Grand room w/ fireplace. Also coming in October will be another night of entertainment featuring Paul LaPointe, on Friday, Oct. 20, starting at 6 p.m. Call Nancy at 694-9494 to make reservations for this fun night.

Take some time this week to come out to the course and take in some of the beauty. We’ll see you on the course.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662 or email houltongolf@gmail.com
