VASSALBORO, Maine — The Carlisle golf team, in its first season as a cooperative effort including athletes from Caribou and Presque Isle high schools, fell short in its attempt to qualify for the Class A state championships which are slated for Oct. 7 at Natanis Golf Club.
Carlisle posted a score of 394 to place 13th overall at Natanis’s Tomahawk Course on Tuesday, Sept. 26, as the squad competed in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Qualifier.
The top five teams out of the 14 participating move on to the state team tourney. They are Mt. Ararat (328), Lewiston (337), Edward Little (340), Messalonskee (340) and Camden Hills (343).
Carlisle also did not have any golfers qualify for the state boys’ individual tourney, which is set for Oct. 14, also at Natanis. The cutoff was 84 and Noah Rosado posted Carlisle’s low round with a 97. He was followed by Gabe Rand (98), Seth Roy (99) Isaac Madore (100) and Brady Miller (136).
With a 102, Libby Boone, Carlisle’s lone female competitor, was two strokes shy of qualifying for the state girls’ individual tournament, also to be played Oct. 14 at Natanis. She will have one more chance to qualify during Thursday’s Penobscot Valley Conference championships at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln.
