The Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 will sponsor a junior bowling league for youths between the ages of 6 and 15 on Saturdays during the months of October 2017 to March 2018.
The league meets Saturdays at 10 a.m. at Northern Lanes Bowling Alley at 510 Main St. in Presque Isle.
Marion Donahue, exalted ruler of the lodge, announced that registration for the league started at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, and would be held again at the same time the following Saturday, Oct. 7.
“Everything necessary to bowl will be provided to the junior bowlers free of charge, namely lanes, shoes and balls, during league play,” Donahue said, adding that funding for this youth activity has been provided through a grant from the Elks National Foundation’s Community Investment Program.
Dale Nickerson, manager of Northern Lanes, said that teams and league schedules will be assembled at the conclusion of the registration period. He said teams will be chosen “in order to create the greatest potential for league play, as well as the best opportunity for development of bowling skills by the younger bowlers.”
Nickerson said that while parents are encouraged to attend and to assist in keeping score, the Presque Isle Elks and Northern Lanes will provide mentors, coaches and general supervisors during league play.
