Hall of Fame induction highlights UMPI’s Homecoming Weekend

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Four University of Maine at Presque Isle graduates will receive the university’s highest athletic honor Saturday, Oct. 7, when they are inducted into the Owls’ Athletic Hall of Fame.

The ceremony will highlight sports-related activities offered during Homecoming Weekend.

Claudia Labrie, Rachel Larlee Bousquet, Adam Smith and Jeremy Von Oesen will be inducted during a dinner and ceremony taking place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Campus Center. It is being held as part of UMPI’s Homecoming Weekend.

Labrie, who graduated in 1987, was a standout basketball player for the Owls, while Larlee Bousquet, a 2004 graduate, also starred on the basketball court for UMPI and did some coaching afterward, including at the varsity level at Foxcroft Academy.

Smith played several sports at the university, graduating in 1985. He has had a successful coaching career in the Yarmouth area. Von Oesen, a 2004 graduate, was a brilliant soccer goalie for the Owls and currently coaches both the women’s and men’s soccer teams at Unity College.

Several other events are taking place on campus or nearby from Oct. 5-8.

The women’s basketball team is hosting a spaghetti supper fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 5-7 p.m. at the Campus Center. The cost is $7.50 per ticket.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the women’s and men’s soccer teams will host Unity College at Park Family Field, with the doubleheader beginning at noon.

Alumni events are a major part of the day on Sunday, Oct. 8. An alumni men’s soccer game kicks off at 10 a.m. at Park Family Field, while an alumni baseball game takes place at the same time at the Presque Isle Middle School baseball field. The annual UMPI Alumni and All-Comers Cross Country 5K begins at 11 a.m. at Park Family Field.

The women’s soccer team will then host SUNY-Canton for a regular season match at noon.
