CHAPMAN, Maine – Arline Knight, 97, passed away, Friday, September 29, 2017, in a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born October 19, 1919, in Mapleton, Maine, the daughter of Elwood and Elizabeth Kenney.
After graduating from Mapleton High School, she worked at Woolworth’s department store (5¢ and 10¢) in Presque Isle. She married Clarence Knight and together they farmed and raised a family of four. She also served many years as ballot clerk and town clerk for the Town of Chapman.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she was a faithful member, never missing Sunday School until she was in her nineties. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living resident of Chapman.
She is survived by her brother Linwood, three sons, Tarry Knight of Chapman, Larry and Sharron Knight of Caribou, Eugene and Heidi Knight of Florida; a daughter, Sara Raymond and her husband, David, of Presque Isle; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Tara and Michael Matthews, Shannon Knight, Lori and Kent Phair, Melissa and Bryan Thompson, Seth and Katrina Knight, Jacob and Penny Knight, Christopher and Haley Raymond, Isaac, and Dara Raymond; great-grandchildren; Kolby Knight, Sydney, Landon and Reed Thompson; Forrest and Miles Raymond Cameron and Molly Matthews.
Arline was predeceased by her husband Clarence E. Knight, a sister Ada Kenny, and a brother Frank Kenney.
The family would like to express special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Presque Isle Nursing and Rehab Center for their wonderful care of Arline.
A graveside service was held 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle with Rev. Jim Ackerson, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arline’s memory to Bethany Baptist Church, Presque Isle. Online condolences may be expressed at
