BANGOR AND PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Gloria J. Cote, 77, died after an extended illness October 1, 2017, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born August 18, 1940, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Stephen and Nellie (Wardwell) Albee.
Gloria attended schools in Presque Isle, graduating from Presque Isle High School, class of 1959. After graduation, Gloria was a stay-at-home mom. She later worked for the Social Security office and UMaine at Presque Isle, in the grants and loans department. She also was a student at UMPI where she took an accelerated nursing course. She had several different jobs as a registered nurse, including 17 years as an RN for the city of Bangor. She was a nurse for a total of 33 years. Gloria enjoyed being a part of the women’s church group at The River Church, in Bangor. She loved to cook, passing on that love to each of her grandchildren. Gloria will be remembered as an excellent wife who loved her family above all. She was like a mother to her grandson, Christopher, at a time when he needed her most.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents and her in-laws. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Arthur Cote; children, Stephen Cote and wife Ruth, and Todd Cote and wife Susan; five grandchildren, Alisha, Christopher, Brent, Dustin, and Jayden; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Galen Wardwell and wife Mary-Ellen; many nieces, nephews; and many friends.
Relatives and friends were welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, with Pastor Steve Sinclair, pastor of The River Church, Bangor, officiating.
