Made the move — John A. Millar has completed the removal of his candy manufacturing and wholesale department to his new quarters on Bangor St., and is now ready for business on a much larger scale than ever before.
New job — Harry Tilley, who for the past two years was employed at F. L. Cook’s bookstore, has entered the employ of Taggett & Gartley.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 1, 1942
WIth phone company — George McCain, who has been employed at the A. H. Fogg Co. for the past five years, has accepted a position as lineman with New England Telephone and Telegraph Co..
On committee — Bernard E. Esters left Saturday night for New York City, where he is representing the National Editorial Association as a member of a committee of the printing and publishing industry, which is holding hearings regarding minimum hourly wage rates within the graphic arts industry.
50 Years Ago – Oct. 4 , 1967
Fuel supplied — The Houlton Gas Company submitted the lowest of three bids and was awarded a contract Monday night to supply the town with fuel oil for the coming season. Houlton Gas, a Chevron dealer, will supply the town with approximately 55,000 gallons of No. 2 fuel oil.
Gift — James Mackay, a director of the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill, received a check for $695 from Herschel Good, president of the Mars Hill Rotary Club. The check will be used to purchase a cardiac monitor for the Health Center to benefit heart patients.
25 Years Ago – Sept. 30, 1992
Anniversary — Mr. and Mrs. L. Jackman Sleeper of Ellsworth were honored on Sept. 12 at the Hilltop House Restaurant, Ellsworth, on their 70th wedding anniversary. The two were married Sept. 12, 1922. Four generations of relatives were represented.
Winner — Geneva McGary of Smyrna is the winner of the quilt raffle at Friends and Needles Quilt show during the Potato Feast celebration.
