MMG makes United Way donation

PRESQUE ISLE – MMG Insurance, with the support of its employees, business partners and the local community, has completed another successful fundraising event. The MMG Charity Golf Tournament was a three-person scramble that was held Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield with 147 golfers taking part and raising over $24,000. MMG has been privileged to spearhead this event for 17 years and has raised over $310,000 in that time period.

The proceeds from the tournament have once again been given to the United Way of Aroostook. The United Way will allocate these funds to local agencies, directly benefiting the people of Aroostook County.
“MMG is proud to be a part of the important mission of the United Way of Aroostook and all of the support it provides many in The County throughout the year,” said Larry Shaw, president and chief executive officer. “The success of this tournament is also due in large part to contributions made by MMG business partners outside of our area. We are very thankful for their involvement and appreciate the contributions brought forth as a result of our extended business relationships.”
Don Zillman, president of the United Way of Aroostook, was pleased to accept the donation — one of the first to count toward the 2011 fundraising campaign.
“The United Way of Aroostook tries to serve the social needs of The County, through heating, flood, food and other assistance. I’m absolutely delighted to start off the 2011 campaign with such a generous donation from MMG. This is a marvelous launch to our goal of raising $520,000 in the coming year,” said Zillman.
