PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The campus will be busy as Homecoming is celebrated this weekend at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
The Owl soccer teams will be in action Saturday with a doubleheader against the Unity Rams at Park Family Field. The women’s game begins at noon, followed by the men’s game at 2 p.m.
The UMPI men enter with a 2-7 record, having lost three consecutive matches. The Owl men lost to Rams in their Sept. 15 meeting in Unity by a score of 3-1.
The Owl women’s squad has lost four straight following a win over UM-Machias in the season opener. This is the first of two meetings between the women’s teams. They play again in Unity on Oct. 21.
The UMPI women’s team also plays at home Sunday at noon against SUNY-Canton.
Alumni events are a major part of the day on Sunday. An alumni men’s soccer game kicks off at 10 a.m. at Park Family Field, while an alumni baseball game takes place at the same time at the Presque Isle Middle School baseball field. The annual UMPI Alumni and All-Comers Cross Country 5K begins at 11 a.m. at Park Family Field.
Another major part of the weekend is the induction ceremony for the Owls’ Athletic Hall of Fame. Claudia Labrie (Class of 1987), Rachel Larlee Bousquet (2004), Adam Smith (1985) and Jeremy Von Oesen (2004) are all part of this year’s class.
The dinner and ceremony will take place Saturday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Campus Center’s Multi-Purpose Room. The cost is $20 per person to attend. Contact the UMPI athletics office at 768-9506 for more information.
