HERMON, Maine — Isabelle Jackson placed third and teammate Ellie Smith eighth out of 26 female runners and Max Bartley and Jonah Clark both turned in top-10 performances in the boys’ race to lead Presque Isle at Friday’s Pendale Invitational cross country meet.
The Presque Isle girls scored 58 points and placed second in the four-team field. Hampden was the winner with 27 points and the Wildcats finished ahead of John Bapst (65) and Hermon (73).
Jackson recorded a time of 21 minutes and 17.64 seconds on the three-mile course. Smith crossed the finish line in 22:44.16. Amanda Winslow (13th), Taylor Ellis (14th) and Madelyn Wing (20th) were the other scoring runners for coach Carson Dobrin’s Wildcats.
Presque Isle placed third in the boys’ competition by scoring 66 points. Hampden won with 18 and Hermon was the runner-up with 48. John Bapst placed fourth with 92.
Bartley was sixth with a 17:16.7 clocking and Clark came in at 17:43.17, good for seventh overall out of 27. Trace Cyr (16th), Carter Jackson (17th) and Owen McQuarrie (20th) rounded out coach Evan Graves’ top five for the Wildcats.
The Penobscot Valley Conference championships will be held at Orono Saturday beginning at noon.
