The University of Maine at Presque Isle soccer teams were beaten at home during Homecoming weekend contests played Saturday and Sunday.
The Owls women have lost six consecutive games following a victory in their opening match. UMPI dropped a 2-0 decision on Saturday to Unity College and then were shut out by SUNY-Canton 3-0 Sunday.
Carly Davis and Nicole Robitaille each scored in Unity’s win, while Madison Rowe, Kristina DiNardo and Rebecca DiNardo tallied for SUNY-Canton the following afternoon.
The Owls next play Maine Maritime Academy in Castine Sunday.
The UMPI men fell to 2-8 following a 1-0 loss to Unity Saturday. The Owls played shorthanded for the final 73 minutes after one of their players was issued a red card, but they gave up only the one goal, which came in the 30th minute and was provided by Drew Linder.
On Senior Day, the Owls’ Sean Barbosa of Caribou, Brandon Fuller of St. Albans, Mike Guerrette of Presque Isle and Matt Manter of Caribou all were honored for their contributions to the program prior to the match.
UMPI, losers of four in a row, will be on the road for the rest of the season, beginning with Saturday’s game against Central Maine Community College in Auburn.
UMPI’s volleyball team had a good weekend, winning all three of their matches played in Poultney, Vermont.
Coach Jonathon Bowman’s team beat Green Mountain College, Johnson State and SUNY-Delhi, losing only one game in the process. Miranda Washinawatok, Maddi Thweatt, Ashlon Stroub, Brittney Harper and Taylor Johnson were the statistical leaders in the matches played Friday and Saturday.
UMPI is now 9-13 entering Wednesday’s match against Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.
