The Central Aroostook High School Spanish Club is raising funds for a trip to Ecuador in April 2018.
The students are currently taking orders for whoopie pies to be made Nov. 8 and 9. To order pies, contact any club member — Maddie Crouse, Nate Hawksley, Keara McCrum, Morgan Price, Janelle Tweedie or Isabelle Wright — or call the school at 425-2811 and leave a message for Senora Sargent.
Whoopie pies cost $1.75 each, 6 for $10 or 12 for $20. Please place your order as soon as possible so the club can order supplies.
Harvest supper
For a delicious meal, be sure to stop at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mars Hill on Friday, Oct. 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. They will hold their annual harvest supper, a turkey dinner with all the fixings.
The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
Adult education
SAD 42 adult education classes will be offered starting on Monday, Oct. 16, running through Thursday, Dec. 7. Classes begin at 6 p.m. and end at 8 or 8:30.
Classes offered will include Quilting on Monday and Thursday, Wallet Making on Monday and Thursday, Basic Sketching on Thursday, Low Impact Exercise on Monday and Woodworking on Thursday.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Oct. 3 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Erica Shaw McCrum, Maine Community Foundation Officer for Aroostook. She spoke about the Aroostook County Fund and the grants available to non-profits.
In the past two years, $109,892 in grants were awarded to several Aroostook entities, including the Aroostook Area on Aging for adult day programs, Caribou Recreation Foundation for promoting a marathon, City of Presque Isle to support downtown concerts, Friends of Aroostook for an internship for a UM student, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners for scholarships to workshops, SAD 33 for greenhouse programs, Cary Medical Center for hypertension screening and diabetes prevention programs, Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets to increase participation in the Women, Infants and Children Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum for an exhibit highlighting the contributions of the Micmacs to potato harvesting, and the Town of Madawaska to improve the local food pantry’s capacity.
The Maine Community Foundation’s core purpose is to work with donors and other partners to improve the quality of life for all Maine people.

Operation Christmas Child
The challenge is out to the Central Aroostook area to join in the effort to fill 1,000 boxes to send out this year for Operation Christmas Child. Folks are invited to help by either filling a box, buying things to go into boxes or by donating funds to help with the shipping costs of $9 per box, which is the first increase in a number of years. The drop-off location for this year is 24 Military Road (Route 1) in Blaine, the former Faith Baptist Chapel. Dates and times are Nov. 13-18, 8-10 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.; Nov. 19, 12-2 p.m.; and Nov. 20, 6-8 a.m.

Library Happenings
A special happening in Mars Hill is “Our Library Rocks”. Colorfully painted rocks are hidden around town for others to find. Once found, they post a picture on the library’s website or on Facebook and then take the rock to hide somewhere else.
Regular happening include Toddler Time on Tuesdays at 10, and Craft Club on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30. Bring your favorite cross stitch piece, knitting, crocheting or other craft to work on in the company of others.
Aroostook Health Center
Upcoming events for the week of Oct. 11-17 include: Wednesday is Orange Day and will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Exercise Fun at 9:30 a.m. and Karaoke with Larry and Larry at 1:30 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Horse Racing at 1:30 p.m. and United Methodist at 6:30 p.m. Friday will feature LRC Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Music by The Countrymen at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will be a free day with movies, games and puzzles available in the dayroom. Sunday will have televised church available in the day room. Monday will feature Nails with Shallie and Melissa at 9:30 a.m. and Communion at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and a Tea Social at 1:30 p.m.

Bingo
The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill will host Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. There are cash prizes. Refreshments are available.
