From the Bunkers (week of October 11, 2017)

Mother Nature dealt us a blow this weekend as our GFL Scramble had to be canceled because of the threat of thunderstorms. If we can get some good weather on the weekends, we may reschedule so keep an eye on your email.

Golf is a relaxing and sometimes frustrating game, but it does have its exciting milestones. This week a new member and new golfer from our GFL (Golf For Life) program hit one. Maeva Buckman has been playing faithfully almost every day this summer. She comes out early, walks her nine holes and heads back home.

This week Buckman came into the clubhouse after her round and Ray could tell something was up. She proudly announced that she got her first par that day. There is pure gold in a moment like this. Congratulations to her. Just the first of many milestones to conquer. She will be back!

Also congratulations to the Houlton High School golf team taking second place in the Maine State Class C Championships this weekend at Natanis Golf course in Vassalboro. Good job!

The Lakeside Restaurant will continue to serve golfers and the public until the end of the month, when they will close for the season.  Friday, Oct. 20, will feature Paul LaPointe entertaining you for your dining pleasure with 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s music. Call Nancy at 694-9494 to make reservations.

Enjoy your game of golf this week as it will be even more beautiful with the changing colors in the landscape. Hope to see you out there.

A final note this week — 2018 memberships are being offered at 2017 pricing as long as the balance is paid by Dec. 31 of this year.  For anyone who is not a member now, they can pay 2017 pricing and be a member for the remainder of this year and all of next. Membership applications are available on the website at www.houltongolf.com.

Houlton Community Golf Course is located on 6 Country Club Drive in New Limerick. For more information on the course call 532-2662 or email houltongolf@gmail.com
