New position — Miss Marion Buzzell has been engaged on the teaching staff of the Houlton High School.
Updated — The new Brunswick-Balk Collender Alleys for the Bowlodrome have arrived, and a workman from the factory is putting them in place, and when finished Mr. Fleming will have one of the finest places in eastern Maine for bowling.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 1, 1942
Teaching — Miss Colleen Hamilton, a student at Aroostook Normal School in Presque Isle, is teaching for several weeks at Haynesville.
Barn raising — Observers of the Houlton Aircraft Warning Post are requested by Chief Observer Norville Reid to gather at 8 o’clock Sunday morning at the post’s new location on Garrison Hill for an old fashioned ‘barn raising bee,’ when the post will be raised and renovated. The building, which has been located on the B Road, has been moved to the new location and on Sunday will be completely outfitted for winter observation work.
50 Years Ago – Oct. 11 , 1967
Opening for — On Oct. 18, the Houlton Community Concert Association brings to the high school auditorium stage the world famous Beaux Arts Trio of New York. This will be the first of three concerts on the Community Concert program for the 1967-68 season.
Attend convention — Mrs. Benjamin S. Sweet of Houlton, State president of the Maine Woman’s Christian Temperance Union, Mrs. Angus Tomilson, Mrs. Fraser Dunlop, Mrs. Verda Rhoda and Mrs. Donald Harding, all of Houlton, plan to leave for Portland to attend the 93rd annual convention of the Maine WCTU. The all-over theme of the convention is ‘United Action.’
25 Years Ago – Oct. 7, 1992
Congratulations — Jerry Wilson, manager of Dead River Company, congratulated Maurice Ellis and daughter Desiree for winning 100 gallons of fuel oil raffled by the Houlton Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary. Present also was Mary Williamson, president of the ladies auxiliary.
New sport — Eddie DeLeo of Monticello was congratulated by Bruce Williams, manager of Andy’s IGA, as he was the winner of the August Blizzard Deli-Days contest at Andy’s. DeLeo won a Polaris 440 Indy Sport.
