Carbon Monoxide and Fire Safety Seminar slated for Oct. 17

Cary Medical Center is hosting an event for Caribou residents to discuss the aspects of how to prevent, detect and suspect carbon monoxide. Called the invisible killer, carbon monoxide is an odorless gas created when fuels burn incompletely. Learn about the importance of CO alarms at a Cary Medical Center training event on Oct. 17th at 6 p.m. at Cary Medical Center. Participants are encouraged to sign up for free CO alarms.

The program is free for community residents.

More than 50% of residents in Aroostook County do not have carbon monoxide detectors in their homes, and a goal of this program is to help bridge that gap. Through a grant from State Farm, Cary is able to provide program participants a free carbon monoxide detector. Cary Medical Center is partnering with local fire departments to install the detectors in participant homes, and also provide home and fire safety guidance.  While most homes have smoke detectors, many do not have one for carbon monoxide.
