The Whittier Congregational Church will be having their annual fall Trash and Treasure and home-baked goods sale on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. till noon.
There will be a large selection of just about everything and you can have a fun time browsing around and checking everything out. For some who come, the fun is in deciding what to buy to eat from the well-stocked food table which, I am sure, will include homemade bread and, hopefully, pies, home-grown veggies, homemade pickles and other goodies. So, plan your day to come and enjoy the last sale of the season.
Mrs. Rebecca Marquis has returned to her home in Augusta after spending some time here in Island Falls with her mother, Marion Hoar, and visiting with her brothers and their families.
The deer have decided to keep to the woods now, as I haven’t seen one in the last two weeks. For a while they were there every morning and also just at dusk.
All summer long I have had no birds at my feeder until suddenly, just the other day, I had two nuthatches and a couple of chickadees darting in and out of the feeders but not staying too long. Maybe the bit of rain we got had an effect on them and they have decided to return instead of looking for water someplace else, as the weather has been so dry.
The colorful leaves on my maple trees have just about all drifted to the ground, and I am busy running out most days to collect them with the leaf-picker-up that I have on my lawnmower — a great invention, to say the least, so no more raking for me.
