CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Fire Chief Scott Susi was a recent guest visitor at the Caribou Public Library’s Preschool Program.
Chief Susi read “Curious George at the Fire Station,” a book adapted from the Curious George film series, edited by Margret Rey and Alan J. Shalleck. He told the children he chose that book because it had a good message: Calling the fire station or 911 when there isn’t an emergency can keep firefighters from being able to assist someone who really needs their help.
“But, we want you to call when you need us. We always want to be there to help in an emergency,” he explained.
Children practiced saying “9-1- 1”, and then Susi offered a blanket invitation to stop by the fire station anytime.
He then invited the preschoolers and parents outside to see the city’s newest fire engine. They got a chance to view the compartments with equipment and tools, explore the cab and hear the siren.
Other city department visitors this fall have included Matt Bouchard from the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department, officers from the Caribou Police Department and emergency medical technicians.
