The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Nov. 16 at the Aroostook Health Center for its weekly morning meeting. The special speaker was Rotarian Kelly Lundeen, the new Administrator at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. Lundeen started with TAMC in 1999 as an LPN. She has worked at various positions, from charge nurse to director of nursing. She was named the administrator a short time ago.

PRESENTERS — Mia Pangburn, physical education teacher for SAD 42 and Dave Collins, Mars Hill recreation director, recently conducted a session with Kathy Mazzuchelli from the Caribou Rec Department entitled “Physical Education and Recreation Working Together” at the annual state conference of recreation professionals. Their session explained how rec departments in the two communities share resources and talents with the schools and phys ed classes to develop creative programs and healthy lifetime skills. Collins also helped present another session on “Bringing Hershey Track & Field to Physical Ed Classes.”
Lundeen has around 100 employees under her charge, as well as up to 50 long-term care residents and 12 residents on the skilled end of the facility. She is very appreciative of all the help she receives from the entire staff, especially Rhonda Orser.
Lundeen has several things that she wants to work on getting for the facility; a new call system is uppermost on her list. It will allow the workers to carry a beeper instead of needing to be called over an intercom. There have been some windows already replaced, but the rest also need to be done. There have been some new TVs installed, but she plans on replacing all the other older units with flat screens also.
The facility recently underwent a state survey, with five individuals spending five days going over the facility, the charts, etc. AHC did quite well, only needing to change and update a few things that they were found deficient in. Lundeen’s next big job to tackle will be next year’s budget.
The CA Historical Society will be holding a public meeting on Monday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the CAHS Music Room. This meeting is for any of the Mars Hill, Blaine, E Plantation, Robinson and Westfield community members who would like to be part of the discussion of the former Mars Hill Ski Way/Ski Way of Aroostook and the old early one- or two-room schoolhouses in the area. The ski area is planning their 50th anniversary for 2011.
The society is looking for any old memorabilia. If you have any pictures or newspaper articles of any event that has taken place at the mountain in its earlier years, or would be related to area schools in the early 1900s and would like to share them with the society, it would be greatly appreciated.
The Mars Hill Community Cupboard will distribute food twice a month during November and December by continuing the second Tuesday of each month from 1-3 p.m., but will change the second date to the third Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. instead of the fourth Tuesday. This is due to the November and December holidays. Distribution dates will be November 9 and 16; December 14 and 21.
Food is distributed at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center on ACI Street in Mars Hill. This local food pantry serves residents in need from the areas of Westfield, Mars Hill, Blaine, Bridgewater, Robinson and E Plantation.
Mars Hill Community Cupboard is also a station for RSVP members who would like to volunteer and a distribution center for the Aroostook Agency on Aging, a supplemental program for anyone in need who is aged 60 or older.
